I have just recently purchased a boat that had a vinyl interior. Half of the interior had already fallen down so I ripped the rest of it down. Behind the vinyl there is the resin left from the glue. Any suggestions on an effective removal of the resin as well as paint brands/types or other applications for the interior? Thanks for your input.
What happens if you put a heat gun to it? It would be intersting to see what would happen to the residue under high heat, it might change quite a bit. It might scrape off easier. Oven cleaner?
As for paint, I would look at the Hobby spray paint that out wives like to spray bread racks and the like with, It is highly textured with complementary specs in it. It would hide any imperfections and look a lot like the speckled gelcoat that is sprayed inside a lot of hulls. You might also consider some cushions, I have one hull surface of my v-berth and the hull surface of my quarter berth covered with back rest cushions, all I did was install some snaps. I also installed some teak ply.
I'd be concerned that too high of a heat setting might damage the gelcoat. If it were my boat, I'd open all the hatches, run an electric fan for ventilation and use "Goof Off" or the other popular one. Of course there may be some risk with this product also - so you may want to do a test area first . . .
