The following pics are from my latest reefing trials over the last year. Awhile back, I posted on the re-rigging of the boom internal workings. My motivation was from the lack of outhaul and amount of force required with stock setup. I am now satisfied in principle with the current setup after many sea trials. The purchase on the outhaul is now 6:1 if I remember correctly.( :2 greater than stock I know) Also, everything is now run from the cockpit.

The first pic is of the reef lines that run through the tack and mast hardware. They are both knotted on the backside of their respective reef points.

This pic shows the horn cleat I use to secure the in-use reef line. The yellow is the first reef point and the blue is the second. Note the topping lift line running along the bottom to boom mounted cleat.

This pic shows the outhaul attachment. A small snap hook is used that passes through the clew and attaches to the bottom of the boom. This configuration allows an "on the fly" selection of any reef point from the cockpit without all the gymnastics of the "single line reefing" system. The outhaul runs along the bottom of the boom to a boom mounted cleat.

And here is the system at work. The "Famous $5 lazy jacks" are excellent at managing the reef slabs.(an unintended consequence) I might add that so far the lazy jack system has far exceeded my expectations. You can also see the second reef control line next to the mast.

The sail slugs do not take the outhaul tension and a mast gate is not necessary due to the routing of the reef lines. I know there may be questions, go easy on me, I'm no Dennis Conner!

I like your pictures.
I see the yellow line for the 1st reef and the blue line for the 2nd reef.
How do you attach the outhaul to the 2nd reef clew?
Do you set the 2nd reef tack then loop the snap hook through the 2nd reef clew on the fly?

It looks like you have mast-mounted halyard cleats.
What year and hull number is your boat?

Russ, correct on the snap hook question. The routing of the outhaul gives a down and out tensioning. The mast cleat is used for the lazy jack control line which has been set it and forget it. My main halyard is run through a block at the mast base and line stoppered near the starboard cabin winch. WindHo is #528 from 2001.
