I've got the original cleats on the cabin top of my Capri. They still are in good working order, but I notice they do a number on the outer sheathing of my lines. Would rope clutches be a sensible improvement? Who is using them on their Capri and for which lines? What kind and size? Would you suggest something else?
Rick, I have the Main and Genoa Halyards comming back to the cockpit on the Starboard Side of the cabin, they run thru a rope double clutch then back to the winches, on the port side I have the Spinnaker and Jib Halyard running back into another double clutch. I am going to run the spinnaker halyard out thru the mast into a cam cleat, but for now it seems really easy to have the spinnaker halyard back in the cockpit. The cheapest I found was thru CD. To install them was a snap and took about 10 min. each side. Before we would be sailing in heavy air and would need to use the cleat that the spinnaker was stopped in, we would have no option but to blow the chute, then raise the jib. Hope this helps. If something goes wrong with the cluches you still have the jam cleats. we needed to do this because of the crew stepping on the open Clutch and breaking the handle off. Always keep them closed...
Rick, I just stoped by the office to check the post and get some money, and I am heading up to the boat. i will grab the camera and take a photo of the setup.
That helps a lot, I see you use the rope clutch and the cleats. Thought they acted as a replacement for the cleats, not in addition. That was why your earlier description confused me.
