Posted - 02/13/2023 : 10:02:34 I posted ths on mmy FB page and thought the members here might enjoy it. The Golden Globe race non-stop around the world has been reinstated with rules that reflect the first race 1968. The 2022 Golden Globe Race is very simple: Depart from Les Sables-d’Olonne, France on September 4th, 2022 and sail solo, non-stop around the world, via the five Great Capes and return to Les Sables-d’Olonne France. Currently being led by Kirsten Neuschäfer in her 36’ yacht but she is now rounding Cape Horn in horrendous seas. The 1968 race is also the race that made the French sailor Bernard Moitessier a sailing legend. Leading the race, heading back to France he instead turned South and continued sailing. If you get a chance read “The Long Way” by Bernard Moitessier and William Rodarmor it recounts his time in the race, the difficulties he faced and where he went instead of winning and going home. https://goldengloberace.com/

Another great read that took place during the same race is a book by Nocholas Tomalin and Ron Hall "The strange voyage of Donald Crowhurst" as published by a reporter of the "Sunday Times" who was committed to publish the race. It is a very strange tale indeed and ultimately intertwined with the two sailors ahead of him
