Great video if you have access to the lower gudgeon from inside the aft quarter berth. My 1982 doesn't have any access so I'm not sure how I fix the broken or missing left lower gudgeon bolt. It'll have to wait until Spring 2023. I think think bolt sheared off and I'm not sure how I get it out so it can be replaced.

This is how I did mine. I replaced my original gudgeons with the new upgraded ones with the bushings. I removed the existing gudgeons without cutting any holes in the liner. I just reached up there and removed it.

Then I cut the lip off the old gudgeons and welded nuts to the old gudgeons and used them as backing plates for the new ones.

To install the top backing plate, I pushed two pieces of stranded wire through the two end holes in the transom. Inside the boat I put the two wires through the two end holes of the backing plate and tied a knot in the end of the wires. Outside the boat, I used the wires to pull the backing plate up against the inside of the transom and started a long stud in the center hole. The I replaced each wire with a long stud, one at a time. Then slathered the new gudgeon with sealant. Slid the new gudgeon over the studs. Then I replaced the studs with bolts, one bolt one at a time.

What the video doesn't warn you of is that the new Gudgeons are shaped like barrels with nylon inserts. The old ones are just a hole punched through flat stainless. The new gudgeons and pintles need to be in perfect virtical alignment or the pintles will bind and not seat when you go to hang the rudder. Similar to having two door hinges on different angles. It happened to me.
