I received the new rubber boot that covers the control arm to the rudder for the pedestal steering to replace the old torn one. As i have been unable to find an instructions or suggestions on what type of sealant/adhesive should be used, if any, in the replacement. At this point, if have not disassembled the existing mounting of the boot to the transom. But looking at it, it would appear that nothing was used as a sealer/adhesive for this type of installation. Reaction or suggestions on if some form of sealer/adhesive should be used? if so, what do you recommend

That's my concern as well. Boot has been town for a while and no water appears to be entering the back cabin behind the battery box. Thanks for the tip!

I did the same repair about two years ago. I used Boat Life Caulk (polysulfide based) because it's easy to remove and clean up. I figured I would be doing it again in a few years because that rubber isn't very UV tolerant. The rubber alone is probably good enough but I wanted the bolt holes to be sealed too.

I searched the forum as well as other sailing internet forums and didn't fined anything directly on point. All were more about the linkage installation and adjustment(s) and not about the installaiton of the rubber boot to the transom. Calling CD was farther down my list, as i was hoping somebody here had already been down this path before. Hoping to avoid wait times on tech calls.

If you purchased it from Catalina Direct you can call them and ask for advice or resources. They have a very knowledgeable staff and probably can talk you through the installation. If not, then have you tried the Forum search tool?
