Do the stays tighten up when the mast is down and loosen as the mast is raised?
I just ordered a set from Catalina Direct, measured according to their directions and it matched the rigging diagram in this forum 82". Even if I adjust them fully they only go down to 82.5" so they are quite loose when mast is up. But if they tighten up as the mast is lowered, I would want them loose when the mast is up so they don't bind.

You will prefer that the boat is parked level from side to side with either the wind from behind or from the bow if possible.
