Ok so the one project I didn't tackle that needs to be done (next winter - waiting until next season) is the windows.... Yes they leak....not crazy but do..... Is the kit from Catalina the way to go or is there another fix. Ideas / Experiences?? Pictures of jobs completed?? Help!!
I can only tell you what my "plan" is. I plan on pulling the existing windows completely (frames and all)... then build a template of windows from plywood.. then get some 1/4 inch acryllic (smoked).. and cut them to size. I'll put screw holes and butyl tape on them (like the Capri 22)... It's not perfect, but that's my plan.
I hear that the layup under the window frames is pretty rough, so I'll have to come up with something for that as well.
I can't help you much. My boat (1985) did not have the framed windows but has something similar to what you are suggesting. I've never seen them leak and from what I can tell there are no screws in them either. They are simply caulked in place. I've never done anything to them. If you would like some pics I'll take some and try to post.
I got pictures from Ian Spencer (More about it in the Spring 2014 Mainsheet) he used the Cruising Concepts precut windows to replace his... I think it turned out pretty good.
But like Joe's boat, I prefer the newer style windows for our boats. This is the newer style windows, the chiseled shape appeals to me more (personal preference)...
Are those the ones through Catalina, I contacted the parts department and got a response back saying:
Lisa from the Florida location...... "We can remake the windows for you given that you send us a paper pattern or the original windows. The windows are $125.00 each plus shipping."
Those last two have some of my writeup for refurbishing the original windows and using a butyl tape for bedding. That was September of 2013 the windows are still not leaking - 9 months and counting...
