I want to upgrade to LED fixtures, and the original wire is pretty shot. Anyone figure out a clever, slick way to run new wiring to look the least noticable?
Well, I don't know if this is either "clever" or "slick," but it's better than looking at bare wires ...
I don't know what this stuff is called, but it is made for running wires and keeping them out of sight. You end up with a white plastic channel with the wires inside, and the plastic channel is glued to the cabin liner. As I recall, there is a peel-off covering and a "sticky" back. The sticky back doesn't hold all that well, so you might want to try a glue gun, super glue, or something similar.
Here is what it looks like. I used it to cover the wire that goes from my external speaker to my stereo. You can see the plastic channel just to the right of the companionway; the speaker is that big black thing:
They sell joiners for long lengths, and right-angles for corners. They make the installation look better.
You could use that to bring wires up to the trough and then drill access where you want lights if you are going for the original position or anywhere along the sides. To reach the overhead you can continue along the tough and drill and pass the wires through the bulkhead. Go up on the forward side and back through for an overhead fixture. If you're not familiar with it, the trough is part of the surface that the original lights are attached to.
