Having just bought this boat I thought it prudent to inspect the pivot pin assembly. Dropped it down using the 4 long bolt method. All was good but I noticed that the bolts are not all the same length. three were 1", one was 1/1/4". Does anybody know what the correct length should be?

Thanks
Jim

Mine are all the same, but I can't say 1" or 1 1/4" The good thing is that you should replace them anyway. Apparently 5/16 x 1.25: http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/forum/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=13801 5/16x1 1/4:

Interesting, mine are 3/8. I'll replace them with 3/8 x1 1/4 " for peace of mind.

Thanks Dave.

3/8 sounds right. Perhaps they were changed at some point - just quoted the link. You might lube the threads and gently run them in all the way to be sure.

In case you haven't encountered this advice before, be sure to coat the bolts with a lubricant before installing them. Stainless-to-stainless can result in galling of the threads (male or female or both), causing the bolts to begin to seize-up before they have attained their required holding capacity. They feel like they're in tight but they aren't. In bad cases they seize-up before they even get close. And when they do it's sometimes a serious problem because they won't go in all the way and they won't come out without a great deal of effort. By that time the threads on the part you're bolting into (the parts that are embedded in glass in this case) are ruined. Different folks have different preferences for this, but I favor Tef-Gel because it's sticky and I don't feel as though the lubricant is encouraging the bolts to work themselves out later.

The trouble with a destination - any destination, really - is that it interrupts The Journey.

Is there a torque setting for these?
