My barbecue is causing me too much frustration. Time for a new one.
Any suggestions? My current BBQ is small (15 inches?), round, and mounts with a single attachment to the stern pulpit. I'm thinking I'll do the same thing. I will likely use it for simple grill tasks like steaks and burgers.
The original Magma Kettle grill looks perfectly reasonable:
I'm not convinced I need a bigger size (The "party size" is 18 inches), or the upgraded Kettle 2 model that claims to work as an oven and a stove as well as a grill (It's a floor wax AND a delicious desert topping).
I also think there is a certain logic to a round grill. The gas comes out of one point in the center and should heat evenly. The square models also add an unnecessary complication of a second mount.
Anyone have any thoughts on BBQs?
Any comments on mounts? My current mount extends off the boat a foot and then up about a foot. This works well. It's nice having the great fall in the water and not on the boat. The magma mount only juts out and does not raise the BBQ. Will I miss this?
We have the Magma Party Size mounted on the starboard stern rail, and have been very happy with it.
You can affect some vertical adjustment because the bracket at the base of the grill tilts. You can rotate the clamps on the rail to raise or lower the grill and then adjust the tilt to keep the grill level.
Also, you can hook the center of the inside of the cover against any point on the perimeter of the grill so that the cover blocks the wind from blowing on the flame while you adjust your food. Other marine grills may have this feature too - I don't know.
