I am guessing you are referring to a newer 4 stroke model. I have a 1975 vintage 2 stroke that I used on a Cal25 several years. Great little motor. Started easy and was very quiet. Mine was a long shaft. Reverse thrust was weak.
...also the conditions you sail/motor in. Big water with the potential for 3'+ seas where you might need to cover some distance strongly suggests whatever you can get to keep the prop down. A lake with occasional big wakes... not quite so much.
On big water, bracket travel is only so useful--you don't want the motor so low that it gets pooped by following seas. It never happened to my XLS Honda, but almost did to my older LS Honda on an older bracket.
