The paint on Tango's wing keel is flaking off in various places, and I'm planning on having my local marina do the repairs. They looked at it and said they could see the lead under the flakes of paint. I always thought the lead keel was coated with fiberglass and gelcoat, then paint. Does anybody have first-hand experience with this? Is it OK to apply VC-17 right over the lead? I searched the archives and couldn't find this topic. Any help will be appreciated.

She is lead, mine had a chunk out and you can shave it with a blade. VC 17 m was always on her. I was able to repair a big chunk with marine tex when I got her, I didn't bother to fix smaller places, (see pict 2).
