I am replacing my masthead and was wondering if drilling hole through the base is best way to get wires up to the anchor light. That is how my old one was, but I just want to be sure before I go drilling into my brand new masthead. (old pics below)

John,

Some here might be a little timid about offering advice re drilling in/through cast aluminum. I've drilled and tapped a few mastheads with no surprises or mishaps. I always use a new/sharp bit and light pressure. Use of cutting oil couldn't hurt either.

As for a hole for the wires . . . the shortest distance would seem to apply here.

As noted above. Do use cutting oil and don't force it and you shouldn't have a problem. Looks pretty much like mine and keeps the wires protected.

Yeah no worries drilling. I had to drill the bottom of the base for the bolt that goes through the mast. CD sends it with no holes. Just checking if this is the best route for the wires.

Thanks for the tips.

I would think it goes without saying all advice on this forum (or any for that matter) is to be "used at your own risk".

Yep, but ya gotta say it. You're not responsible for your own choices and actions in the modern U.S.
