Posted - 04/11/2019 : 06:54:26 Ok I just figured out this year long mystery, lets see if anyone else can. With your knowledge of C25s , the info I give you should be enough.
For a while now I have been hearing an almost constant clicking which sounds like it was/is coming from the bottom of the boat from the aft port quarter. I had envisioned something like a fishing bobber trailing on a line behind the keel. When I hauled out this winter I found nothing. Last week I was sailing in mild chop and the clicking came back. It then occurred to me what it was. Its an 87 wing keel c25. I have given you everything you need to know to solve the mystery. If you have additional questions, I will answer them. The first person to correctly answer will win the accolades of the entire site.

Posted - 04/12/2019 : 04:22:27 I read this too late and now the mystery is over. In any case, the two things that make click type noises on my boat are : The gas tank float and sometimes the block on the jib/genoa track.

When do I get the accolades?

Posted - 04/11/2019 : 16:31:15 Flag? What flag. You mean I need a flag? Can't I just jump up and down and stomp my feet?

Posted - 04/11/2019 : 16:09:39 well i was thinking that one would know that the gas tank is located in the aft port quarter with all our great knowledge of the boat. The protest committee will hear your protest however. Did you present your protest flag? did you hail the other boat? :)

Scott put me on the right tack by mentioning the fuel tank.

Leads me to think its C25 specific. Not a big deal I just thought it pertained to C25's and not just any boat with a gas can.

Posted - 04/11/2019 : 12:28:36 That's not fair! Gas tank isn't installed by Catalina and can make noise on any boat and isn't in the bottom of the boat. I'm filing a formal protest.

Posted - 04/11/2019 : 11:51:46 Might be a hasp on one of the locker lids, the bolt on the gas locker, or possibly a loose fitting on the frame of a bimini top vibrating.

Posted - 04/11/2019 : 10:59:56 I'll also rule out anything to do with the rudder ( mid ship) or anything to do with a gas tank ( not installed by Catalina) Also rule out the swim ladder, cleat, railing and backstay mount that are all to high up. You said bottom of the boat, aft port quarter. I'll also rule out the transom inspection board at the back of the quarter berth ( mid ship)

Posted - 04/11/2019 : 10:01:57 Perhaps the paddle wheel for a water speed instrument...although I admit the location seems weird.
Also curious if it could be fuel tank related...perhaps the fuel gauge float or needle bouncing up and down.

Posted - 04/11/2019 : 09:33:19 Ok I'm ruling out anything on the exterior hull because there is no moving parts on a wing keel hull. This leaves something interior. Port side has the dumpster and fuel locker. Ruling out something you have in the dumpster rolling around leaves possibly something that has come loose. Maybe the hose for the bilge pump?
