I got tired of standing all the time in the cockpit to see over the cabin top, so I put together some low cost cat bird seats. They are made from 3/4" King Starboard. I installed a 1" SS tube removable via clamps from one corner of the stern rail to the other at the base, one on each side. 2 x 1" tubes with rubber stops take the weight, while 1" clips hold the seat firmly to the cross brace rail. The fit is a bit tight with the split back stay, but you sit about 8 inches off the cockpit seats facing forward. Great to relax and take a break.

That’s very cool. Nicely done, simple construction.
Several years ago I built a wooden prototype for a seat raiser that would accomplish a similar thing: provide a taller seat against the stern pulpit that gave me about 6” of height. I added a boat cushion for padding. It worked OK, but a big, unsecured wooden box in the cockpit became a hazard, so I did away with it.
Your simple, secure design looks very good and easily stored. Can you use it on both tacks?

<edit> I see you made a pair - good thinking!

I really don’t need *another* project this season (I still - still! - haven’t gotten my boat in the water but hope to this month) but these look like a really great addition to the Catalina 25 cockpit layout. Thanks for sharing and posting photos!
