Old Bombay II - Seat, Fans, Glass Rack

Captain’s seat. I looked at the Catalina seat and didn’t like it so, stealing ideas from everyone, I designed my own. The curved top allows you to see above the deck and by sliding your butt around you are always upright no matter how far you are healed over.

This version is all wood and is bolted to the top of the gas well cover. I wanted to make it out of Starboard (a plastic board like material that is used for a lot of accessories on boats) but I couldn’t find a supplier, so I used 1/2” wood and painted it. I figure that this seat will last a couple of years then I’ll re-do it out of Starboard if I can find a supplier. (Does anyone know where I can find that or a similar product?)

Cabin fans. The fans were real easy to put in. I just attached them to the lights. They do a very good job of moving air on hot Midwest days. Also notice the teak piece on the upper left of this picture. This is a teak channel I made to run the wire from the mast to the instruments for my wind speed/direction meter. I later found out that I could have run it down the mast step, but the teak piece looks nice, and it worked.

Finally, I added a glass rack to the galley, and installed a cigarette lighter outlet next to the power panel. I fused this independently for safety. The cell phone and the sailing gloves are hung with small pieces of Velcro.

In addition to the cell phone, the cigarette lighter outlet is used for a vacuums, the 12 volt blender my wife (Vicki the admiral) got me for margaritas, and the solar panel.

Yep, with all the extra electrical stuff I added it was beginning to really drain my battery. I picked up a flexible solar panel and wrap it around the boom. It has done a great job of keeping the battery fully charged. Must have power for the blender!!!!
