I'll be replacing the cam cleats on the transom for the traveler. I know the mounting holes on the new won't match the old. Will I find these to be screwed into the FG or through-bolted?

Please let us know what you are going to use as a replacement. I see that the originals aren't made anymore.

The original cleats have the entry rollers and were well suited for the task. I've had a broken spring in one for a while and it's been a pain to use. I tried replacing the spring with no luck and Catalina Direct says they are out of production.

I ordered a couple of these Harken units with fairleads:

https://westcoastsailing.net/harken-micro-cam-cleat-w-extreme-angle-fairlead-h476/

I'm wondering if I might reverse the fairleads so they are on the back side and guide the lines at a right angle.

Alternately, I will mount the cleats at an angle. We'll see how it goes.

Edit: I'm also replacing traveler car with a new unit from CD because sheaves are shot in old one.

Many moons ago I posted pics and a description of a traveler modification that brought the control lines to mid-cockpit. If you can find it in the archives it makes using the traveler infinitely easier.

Here is a shot of one of the new cleats installed after original removed.

Everything is much smooter, especially with the new traveler car.

Taking it out for a test drive before filling holes and cleaning up gel coat.
