Hi,
Looking to make my C-250 more solo-sailable ...
Just wondering if anyone has considered putting an electric anchor windlass on theirs?
Thoughts (besides "oh my god, that's lazy")?
I am thinking that a heavier hinge on the anchor locker would be necessary ...

I haven't heard of it being done on a C-250 or C-25, probably because:
(1) I wouldn't mount it on a hinged locker cover--think about the stress breaking the anchor out of the bottom.
(2) The locker below the windless needs to be deep enough for the rode to fall into it--not a shallow shelf where you'd lay a coiled rode and anchor. (I'm more familiar with the C-25's locker than the C-250's.)
(3) The bow roller must be solidly anchored with enough length on the deck to counter the leverage from the anchor, especially from breaking it out.
(4) The smallest windlass I know about draws 20 amps--most are 35+ amps, which might blow out the alternator on a little outboard, and would be a big load on a C-250 battery bank.

Chris,

As a C250WB owner, no I haven’t heard of one.
If you are concerned about falling overboard or struggling with raising the anchor, you might consider this.

Run the anchor line back to the cabin top winch.
Crank away until the anchor is free of the bottom.
Leave the anchor line on the winch as a safely measure.
Go forward and complete raising the anchor.
It’s worth a try.
