Hello,

While trailering the boat across country, I've bent my port spreader. It's at an upward angle of about 15 deg. The bend is at the attachment to the mast, not just the spreader. Any pointers on replacing? Any idea where to get the parts? It's riveted on there, do I need to worry about an internal compression sleeve or anything?

All help appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Bryant,

I can help you with the spreader replacement question.
The part about attaching the spreader base to the mast is more difficult.

Here's some links to get you started.
We have the C250 Owners Manual online:

A diagram of the spreader is on page-15

Catalina Direct (Sacramento, CA) is an aftermarket supplier approved by Catalina Yachts
Here's their website.

Spreader Extrusion Only C-250
https://www.catalinadirect.com/shop-by-boat/catalina-250/rigging/standing-rigging/spar-fittings/spreader-extrusion-only-c-250/

• Length: 42" (for boats with "U" bolt chainplates through the hull and deck joint)
• May be trimmed to 32" for use on boats with chainplates on the cabin top
• Used on Water Ballast boats through hull #648

Also, there is a Catalina Dealer in Santa Rosa, CA who may be able to help you with your mast questions.
Click the link on my name and send me an email for the details.

Thanks, Russ

Russ, thank you for the information, I really appreciate that. I actually still have the original C-250 owners manual that the shop in Santa Rosa provided. Unfortunately I'm no longer in Santa Rosa and the diagram doesn't really tell me what's going on inside the mast at that level. Even the other diagram dealing with the mast head doesn't really address if there is a compression tube in there or what. I don't know what's going on with the interface between the spreader base and the mast; that's really what I need to know. I've reached out to CD a couple of times and haven't had a reply from them.

You could also try Catalina Yachts--either by e-mail through the linked page or by phone (numbers there). A dealer might not know the details of the interior of the mast, and CD doesn't appear to have the bracket parts for the C-250 like they do for the 25--just the spreader itself. They sell brackets for the C-25 mainly because early versions need to be upgraded from brittle aluminum castings brackets to stainless steel, and are thru-bolted to each other, requiring compression tubes. With riveted brackets, maybe there's no way to even have the tubes (or need for them). Just guessing...
