It would be appreciated that some of you with local knowledge of the Salish Sea area contact me to assist with planning for an upcoming cruise in that area.
The boat and truck are ready to head to that area for a month of cruising but I would like to better understand whats going on up there.
The only fixed goals of the cruise are to visit Desolation Sound and attend the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Show... other than that it would be an accomplishment to visit some of the storied and well known ports in the area. Doing the big cities as well as small towns is fine too.
Point Roberts... I thought about heading there or some port just south of there (still in the US) for my jumping off point... that choice migrated to Port Townsend as I figured it would be easier to launch and return there and haul the boat in the week before the wooden boat show and then head back to LA thereafter.
Appreciate the link to the archive post... helpful.
All the best,
Carl

Over on a trawler forum someone mentioned "clearing in" at Bedwell Harbour... aside from geography - why would I clear into Canada at Bedwell over some other place such as Victoria?
Anybody know?
And what exactly is "clearing in"???
Best,
Carl

As far as I know, “clearing in” must mean clearing customs.
And I think the only reasons to choose one spot over another to clear customs is geography and the sea state/conditions on the day you hope to cross. (For example, the crossing to Bedwell is smaller water - a shorter fetch - than the crossing into Victoria.)
Logistics are important... conditions "on the ground" super important.
Appreciate the thought...
Best,
Carl
