Trying to move from a portapoty to marine toilet.

Would love to know how catalina 250 wk were/are plumbed.

Love to see plans and or pics of locations of seacocks, lines, tanks etc, before I do my own thing.

Here's a variation: The Dometic 711 integrated toilet/holding tank that is meant to run off your fresh water tank (at about .1 - .2 gallons per flush). All you need is a connection to the water, and a short hose to a deck pump-out. No other holes in the boat. And it's extraordinarily easy for anyone to use, compared to traditional marine heads.

Mine is plumbed to a pressure-water system, but the foot peddle apparently serves as a flushing pump for non-pressurized. I like that at season's end, I can open the flush valve and spray out the tank as it is getting its final pump-out. I also like that there's no plumbing to clog or require replacement between the head and the tank. I also like the height--very much like the new "comfort height" toilets for houses. But I can't speak to how it would fit in the C-250 head. (My $+!nkp*+ head space isn't very big.)

In my case, I also greatly appreciate that it doesn't use salt water--that and a little treatment reduces the odors to nothing. I assume in Calgary you're sailing in fresh water--I presume you could plumb it to a thru-hull for water if you really want.

Just a thought...

I forgot to mention it also has a vent that in my case runs to a fitting on the side of the hull.

Kenneth,

Welcome to the forum.
One of the best features of the forum is Search.
Here's a recent post about a C250WK with a marine head.
http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=31421

The marine head was a factory option, but most like mine have a porti-potty.
The tank is located in the stern, next to the battery, behind the bulkhead.
Do you have a tiller or wheel steering?
It may get tight with the tank and wheel steering.

Also, here are two links to Catalina Direct.

Here are a couple pics of the instal on Island Dreams No. 922...

This out-of-focus photo is from way aft on the port side looking forward - the holding tank is anchored and wedged in there. Notice its a vertical tank. The hose in this view is the clean out (suction) hose to empty the tank. The clean out hose goes to a deck fitting on the gunwale above the tank. That plastic "hook" up at the top restrains the tank against the inner bulkhead.

In this out of focus photo we are in the head and looking aft... you can see the waste line going aft to the top of the holding tank which is behind that aft bulkhead... you can also see the seawater inlet hose which has a air gap device installed at the top.

In this photo we are looking at the head and the lines that go aft to either the water supply and the holding tank.

And finally the seawater inlet which is under the aft berth slightly to port...

Now - after all that - I choose to remove the marine head and go with a C-Head "composting" toilet. I did keep the holding tank as its role is to receive urine from the C-Head gallon jugs through the old pump out fitting on the gunwale when in protected receiving waters.

The old seawater thruhull is also still in service but now it is the source of water for a wash down pump.

Best,

Carl
