I'm looking for a surveyor local to Toms River NJ with experience in Catalina 25s. After a 3 year restoration the Admiral and I did she's ready for the water. I know I'll never to be able to insure it for what we put into it but I know it's worth more the $2350 BoatUS is saying. Hell, my new Merc 9.9 is worth more than that alone.

As a comparison for your insurance, GEICO agrees the total boat & trailer cost is $9,000 for my 1986 swing keel & galvanized double axle trailer if all is lost/stolen. Motor is 2014 Bigfoot 9.9 included. Yearly invoice is about $289 if I remember correctly. Deductible is $500. If it sinks & releases oil/gas it has a section that pays for that cleanup up to $900,000.

Hi trbagpiper, Here is contact information for a surveyor I came across about a year ago. I have not used him, but do think it is difficult finding a surveyor in our neighborhood, Ocean County, NJ. This surveyor is out of Forked River, http://www.rvmarinesurveying.com
Good luck!

I'd call a few closer ones and ask what their experience is with swing keel cruising sailboats, and their price for surveying a Catalina 25.

I have had AAA insurance on the home, cars and boat for a while. They didn't require a boat survey on an agreed price policy, and there's a separate agreed price on the motor. Although I can't remember the exact premium, it's less than $100/year.
Boat US doesn't require a survey. They do require pictures of the exterior and interior of boat, trailer and motor pics. Make sure Hazmat is included even if you only do a liability with any company you chose. Clean up of fuel, oil and battery acid is very costly. BoatUs does agreed on price policy and if you do upgrades as opposed to maint. purchases they will just ask for a copy of receipt, and then let you increase your value insured.

Try Dave B’s list. The original link came back with a 404 error, but the associated link works fine https://www.marinesurvey.org/
Ya, they apparently changed the site to search by radius rather than by state (when I responded).

Got a quote for $600 to do a survey. Seems high but it does include in water, out of water, and sea trail. Not including yard cost to haul boat then plop it back in.
