It's time to sell. We have owned Classical Cat for many years. It was first slipped in Oceanside, CA but we later moved it to a slip at the southern end of Mission Bay, San Diego, CA. We trailered back and forth for quite awhile after finding a trailer. Our Catalina 25 is a wing keel, tall rig, resting on a trailer under cover in our backyard. We pulled her out of our San Diego slip due to a medical problem at the time, thought we'd put back in sometime. We've hauled and launched several times locally for the seven years since trailering her home. Rather than leave it to sit under the metal cover any longer we've decided to let someone else enjoy her. The boat is in excellent shape and we have lots of accessories and an 8HP Honda motor. Teak has been oiled many times while here, cushions are in great shape, hull needs polishing and bottom paint job. Interior is excellent. Has a marine head and propane stove. Stereo system and even a Fish Finder!! I bought a motor hoist pulley system that works great. I could also sell the roll up West Marine inflatable dingy and Honda 2HP outboard if interested. I bought some replacement parts like the spreader boots that I've not installed yet. Trailer has new brakes but haven't really been used at all. And the rollers on the trailer are new as well!! Sails are in excellent condition, in bags. Made by Ullman Sails in Ventura, CA. Main, 110 Jib (furling)(newer than M & G), 150 Genoa (furling)
If interested, we live in a place called Hemet, California, which is north of San Diego about 2 hours drive, east of Los Angeles about 1.5 hours driving, and on the western side of the mountain that is next to Palm Springs. If interested, please email or call. Also, I can send some photos and a list of all the stuff included. Will get some photos together soon and post them...(I seem to be having some issues with posting photos here) (Mumble!)
Gary: A bittersweet step I know very well. I sailed next to Classical Cat on Jim Baumgart's boat... You have a nice specimen of the last and best generation of the C-25--the '89-91, which I call the best value in a 25' cruising sailboat ever built by anybody. (Remember that "guacamole" at the sushi restaurant after you escorted us back to port with smoke coming out of Jim's companionway?)
Best of luck on your sale and whatever comes next!

I can vouch for the value of this boat, since mine is virtually identical. Sounds like you've taken good care of it. Good luck with selling. I hope Classical Cat finds a good home.

Dave!! I remember well that day and evening. I still approach dinner dips like avocado puree with extreme caution. Time flies doesn't it? We really miss sailing but not living close to an active sailing venue was getting to be too much and I'd rather see someone enjoy Classical Cat now rather than "hope" to find a place to slip her. We thought we'd be able to move to the San Francisco area where our son and daughter now live and work but home prices up there went nuts so we're stuck. We retired from teaching and so we have time but there are many other things we want to do including travel, etc. Hopefully someone "in great need" of an excellent sailing boat is around somewhere close!! And you still have your power boat...neat! Happy days on the water, Dave.

Yup--first it was smoke coming out of Jim's companionway; a little later it was smoke coming out of your ears!
Somebody's gonna get a fine vessel!

Classical Cat is gone! Family from near Reno, Nevada. They'll sail summers at Lake Tahoe. It was time for me and my wife to move on. Too many "other things" and the C25 just sat on the trailer in the back yard. For 6 years. New owners were young with small kids. They were so excited, the whole family!! They will truly enjoy one of the best around. Who knows? Maybe we'll find that perfect "bigger" Catalina up near San Francisco where our grown son and daughter now work and live...they sure enjoyed sailing Classical Cat when they were growing up. Happy sailing! OBTW, I actually have a smaller sailboat I picked up nearby that I can still take out on the local lake. Sweet and simple. Gary

Congrats on your new chapter! Sounds like Classical Cat found a great new home. They got a gem--hope they introduce themselves here!
As for smaller sailboats, my favorites for pure sailing are the Laser and Sunfish, both of which I've had on plane (in Midwestern squalls and Arizona twilight blasts), hiked out with my butt in the spray off the hull... The responsiveness and flat-out fun can't be beat! Enjoy!

We are the happy new owners of #5944; Scott & Heather Bushey. I am new to sailing but my husband spent time sailing a Catalina 30 with his grandpa as a kid out of San Francisco’s Bay Area. He also had his own Laser that he spent countless hours on smaller lakes. We have made the leap back to a sailboat after years with an expensive, maintenance intensive, gas hog cabin cruiser...Ugh. Scott had 3 engines, 2 outdrives, a water system and AC/heat unit to deal with every spring and fall. Needless to say it took quite a bit of pushing to get him to look at another boat.
We are hoping to get a mooring in Tahoe for the summer and sail mainly there. It’s only a 20 minutes from home. For now we are spending some time to get to know everything we can about this great boat. What a fantastic resource this forum is!
Congratulations Heather and Scott! I'll suggest you re-introduce yourselves in a new topic on the General Sailing forum--a lot of our folks don't pay much attention to boat listings in the Swap Meet. (I looked at this because I knew Gary.) You have indeed come upon one of the best sailing communities on the web--an invaluable feature of these boats!
