I recently purchased a 1998 wing keel 250. Next month I'll move her from a fresh water slip to a salt water slip. Are you guys using a zinc anode with your lead keels? If so what type and placement location.

I'm only using one on the Honda outboard. The keel is sealed in fiberglass, I don't believe there is a need for a zinc for the lead keel.

Lead is fairly resistant to corrosion in seawater. I recall having a small dent in my lead keel. I left it that way for many years with no ill effects. Unrelated to the keel, I had issues with significant blisters in the hull bottom thru the gel coat and laminate and decided to have the blisters removed and the hull bottom waterproofed...which included the keel. Other metals with carbon oxides, even if painted, are good candidates for a zinc anode. Outboards generally would require a zinc anode.
