Does anyone know if Catalina has a sight that matches sail number series with year of manufacture ? Doesn't seem to be much online .

Check our site's boat search and you may be able to narrow it down. Typically, unless it's been changed, the sail number matches the production number of the hull.

I'm curious how the series number matches specific years , I know with my Cat 22 it was a 74' and 5000 series numbers (5232 ) I've read a few things on Cat 25's that may iindcate my boats a 85' instead of 84' that its registered as . Not that it makes any difference in th general scheme of things.

I just went thru the registry , seems to be random , perhaps it's based on model ,type of keel , rig etc.

There used to be two factories building C25s. One was in California and the other was in Florida. I don't know how Catalina assigned hull numbers. They might have assigned them when the order was placed by the customer, or they might have assigned them in the order the boat came off the production line, or some other system. Catalina could probably explain it, but I doubt that you could persuade the State to change the model year on the certificate of title. Government isn't usually very flexible.

Not a big deal , just curious if there was a readily available answer . Day off , weathers miserable . After sailing all day Saturday looks like I really need to work on trimming my mainsail. It was blowing pretty good and i was not happy with how the sail looked, lots more sail adjustment on this boat need more practice I guess .

Hello,

You can find the HIN number etched into the transon near the top on the starboard side. May not be readily visible. And as Islander said, all the info you want is contained in that number.

Yeah , that's right , I remember checking the transom when I bought it and it did end in 84 , I guess that settles any mystery there

Catalina used the first character of the serial number for the model--the C-25 was "K". So my 1985 was CTYK5032C585, meaning she was built in March of 1985 and was designated a 1985 model.

Should also have the HIN on your title and/or registration. (or at least in FL it's there)

Just a FYI. A sail number is not required to have any correlation to a boats mfg. number in the US. I would not try to use the sail number to legally identify a sailboats year made. Sailing vessels made before 1973 US Coast Guard numbering regulations requiring a hull number inscribed on the hull, were at the discretion of the boats manufacture. The USCG regs. for boats started in 1973 had a several year grace period. Since Catalina 25 boats were mfg. after 1973 there should be a inscribed number to match the paperwork. Sometimes the boat would get painted at a later date and the number disappeared.
