My girlfriend may be transferred to Oklahoma City. Is there any lakes close by that we could sail our Catalina 25?

Thank you

Lake Thunderbird (sometimes, Dirtybird), a little more than 30 min south of OKC is where I keep my boat. Not a lot of traffic, and (depending on the wind) some reasonably long runs. And I've been able to sail at least once a month every month of the year.

Lake Hefner (NW side of OKC) is a favorite of many, but it's a little on the small side, and lots of traffic. It's also shallow, and boats can end up unintentionally on the hard when the water is sparse.

Two links that may be helpful:

Bill Rains in OKC is someone you should definitely get to know: knows everything about everything sailing around OKC.

And with a westerly breeze, you might be able to hear when OU scores a touchdown!

Hi Michael,
Thank you for that information. We have a fin keel, so deeper water is most appreciated.

Give yourself a radius for distance and look at the water that is big enough and has sailboat docks. Lots of water in OKC area but you might end up outside of Tulsa... take some drives. Hephner is fabulous for a centerboarder and a quick sail at lunch a C 22 works well there too, nice club. How many boats do you have? (no that is not a silly question on this forum)

I hear Grand Lake is very nice but might be a little drive for you. They have a nice sailing club with many 35'+ sailboats.
