We have the tall, slotted mast step that will allow us to step our own mast when we feel comfortable and educated enough to build an A frame. My question is about a hinged step. We haven't come across one and found an old thread here discussing it. I'm guessing by the nonexistent discussion on the topic that it just isn't worth it. I thought a hinged step would help with stability, as little as it might be.

I have never seen a hinged mast step on a C25. The C25 mast needs the slotted mast step, because the mast lifts slightly when it's being raised. The slot allows it to lift.
Can you furnish a link to the previous thread? I suspect someone might have referred to the slotted mast step as a hinged mast step.

The mast step is a hinge. When you lower the mast the bolt is just loosened not removed. The mast pivot's in the mast plate and the loosened bolt will slide up or down in the slot. True it won't aid in holding the mast from sideways movement but a good A frame will do that. I wouldn't want the plate to try And hold the mast from swaying,If it did it would probably rip the plate out of the deck.
