Just wanted to put this out there for a review in case you were thinking of ordering Catalina Directs Water Cap. I purchased it in June and installed it sometime in July (4 months in the sun). This is how it's holding up.
Obviously not UV stabalized and it began just as their picture shows, a brilliant blue. Now I'm hoping it fades completely to white.

I removed my waterline and lately the deck fitting started leaking. It was very difficult to remove the plate/plug/screw fitting as the o-ring was cracked and jammed.... I replaced it and put calk all over it so yours is lookin pretty good compared....

I also replaced mine with one from Catalina Direct some time ago. The color is gone and the O-ring seal leaks rain water into the tank.

Did you lube the o-ring?

<< Now I'm hoping it fades completely to white. >>

Yepper... but the new design looks like it will seal properly, and the wench handle fitting is pretty smart also.. I'm looking at ordering the cap and a new fitting.

I got an email back from CD. They're aware of the issue, but the only fix is to buy the new stainless assembly that you have to re-drill.

I am not aware of any issue with my water cap...yet.

So, with those responding...you all went to replacing the water cap because the existing one leaked into the water tank and/or inside the cabin ?

I gather that the SS cap is better since the plastic one they sell is not UV stabilized but going with the SS one requires re-drilling ?

If the plastic cap is sensitive to UV rays, can it be painted white with an epoxy paint ? But given that resolve, I would think SS cap is the way to go even if drilling is involved.

My original cap became brittle and cracked. No leaks that I knew of.

Yes, the SS requires drilling, but it's probably the best way to go.

That's the standard for a boat, using the little key with two prongs. I would imagine that tightening a cap with a winch handle is likely to destroy the o-ring. Too easy to apply much torque.

The cap bottoms out and the O-ring design is made to seal on the sides rather than the bottom... no change in compression to the o-ring with either method of tightening.

The newer design also caps over everything like a mushroom rather than holding water with old design.

It may not look better but I'm sure it functions better, especially with freezing temps.
