Where is this located? I can't tell from the manual and the internet is not coming up with anything. There is a part number for it on the parts schematic. I am replacing water impeller, thermostat, engine oil, gear oil, spark plugs, fuel filter and lubing everything. All the above was easy except for finding the oil filter. Going to the San Juan Islands next year so I thought I would replace everything right now so next spring I can do other mods. No buoy this year, looks like a long week vacation (Lake Tahoe) is all we will have the boat on the water for this season.

What year is your motor? Is it original with your boat, or newer? The BF9.9A model that was being sold around 1998 has no oil filter. More recent model (BF9.9D?) does have oil filter. So be sure that you are looking at the parts schematic for the exact model that you have.

FWIW, I have BF15A, which is identical power head to the BF9.9A, except it's tuned "hotter" (carburetor, jets, etc.)

I believe my model year is 98-99. I think it is the original engine. My model is BF9.9A, All of the schematics I look up fr all models and a few years later and earlier show this oil filter, part number 11, under the oil pump drawing.

It looks to be an inline type filter. I am not sure how to find it. The only directions I saw on a service manual online were to remove 6 bolts R.
engine under cover.

The service manual does not list the oil filter as a maintenance item. So if it's in there and in a very inaccessible place, I think it's a safe bet that it is meant to be left alone and not replaced except in case of failure of the part. It would seem that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" is appropriate in this case.

Well that is one less thing to buy. Thanks, I wasn't looking forward to replacing it.

You don't have an oil filter on a BF9.9A models. Late 90's vintage. My 97 doesn't have one.

My '03 BF9.9D has one. It's located under the right engine cover near the dipstick tube. If you had one it would have been hard to miss.
