I am restoring a 82' Catalina 25 and the companionway threhold board needs replacing. CD offers one for around 100bucks, but trying to keep the cost down as I am going to sell afterwards. Looking for some other wood that will work. This forum has helped me tremendously with this project. Has anyone had success substituting other types of wood that will hold up to the weather? Thanks in advance!!

Mahogany. I replaced mine in 2007 and never looked back. A friend had demolished a mahogany deck and I was able to score some very good pieces of 2x6 by six feet.

It took quite a bit of reverse engineering getting all the angles correct. My table saw made it possible. I had to use an angle measuring gizmo to get the correct angles. Since you have the old one you can use the dimensions to true up your work.

You might be able to get one from ftworthsailor (Roy) ... he is parting out a C-25. See the "Swap Meet" section: http://www.catalina-capri-25s.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=29309

The first local woodworker that I talked to, just happened to have a spare piece of mahogany left over from a recent project. So I'll have a threshold board shortly. Thanks Forum.
