Hi
Can anyone tell me how thick the cabin top, by the halyard wich, is? I am putting a fairlead jam cleat for the boom vang and am planning on buying the fasteners before drilling.

between 1/4" and 18"...

Joking aside, it varies substantially. Spend some serious bucks a get a couple different lengths of bolts.

I tried to get that answer when I put in my Spinlocks. I ended up just getting some bolts around 2" and cutting them off once there in. Put acorn nuts on the ends.

The decks were laid up and a liner laid in and the widths between the liner and the deck varies.. I think it gets bigger as it goes outward to the sides of the boat. These are shots of two sides of the same cutout for my vent, just forward and port of the mast.

I'll take another shot this weekend with a measure next to them. It's a common question.



I did the same as others, buy long and cut them off, but sometimes the cut is sloppy and it's hard to get the nuts started.

remember if you cut them to put a nut on first, then you can back the nut over the cut and clean up the threads.

Sure by putting the second nut on it does two things. One is that it gives you a guide as to where to cut and the second is that you have the perfect amount of threads left exposed for the acorn nut after you remove the nut and clean up the threads.

And another tip.. ( and yes I've done this .. a bonehead move... always working on the boat when I'm so tired I can hardly see... )

when you cut the end of the bolt it's easy to simply reach up and try to feel the end to see if you left it with a burr and cut your finger...
