One of he guys at my marina spent about a week breaking apart a concrete keel from a derelict boat. Never saw one of those before.

Home made boats were common for a while, was this a "kit" boat?

Many Com-Pac models have shallow, broad, molded fiberglass keels filled with concrete. No doubt it's cheaper and easier than lead, but lead is almost 5 times density, and cast iron about 3 times.
