I don't recall ever having been in the Rhode River, but I'm very familiar with the area. The Rhode River is off the West River. Galesville is inside the West River, and it has two nice Restaurants and some marine repair facilities. An intriguing feature of the West River is that it almost always has considerably stronger winds than on the Bay. I'm sure that must be the source of the name "Galesville." It must be something to do with the terrain.
The Rhode River is 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Annapolis, and about the same distance from the Bay Bridge. Across the Bay is St. Michaels and Oxford. Good restaurants and anchorages abound on both sides of the bay. Solomons is a long day's sail or motor/sail to the south, with lots of anchorages in between, if you don't want to make the trip in one day.
Casual beer can racing takes place all around the area on Wednesday and Friday evenings, and weekend racing takes place in and around Annapolis Harbor and the Bay Bridge.
