The handle on my galley faucet is really stiff — almost impossible to move forward and backward. I’m afraid to force lest I break it. I assume there’s an O ring of some sort inside that needs lubrication. It appears the black retaining ring has flat sides and can be unscrewed — is that the solution? Any suggestions are very welcome. Thanks!

I'm guessing you have a Whale flipper pump like shown below. Sounds like an O ring or gasket has failed. you could take it apart and see it it just needs lubrication but they do sell a rebuild kit for the pump if it needs it. Do a search for Whale Flipper Pump for more info on it. Service kit#AK0405 https://www.defender.com/search.html?q=AK0405&x=12&y=14

Yes, that is the same faucet I have in the galley and head. Thanks for the tip on the rebuild kit. I wasn't sure if it could be taken apart.
