Tis the season to start planning/stocking parts. I am no mechanic and plead totally naive with regard spark plugs. My outboard manual recommends NGK DCRP6E plugs. A quick search by that description yields at least 16 different models ranging from "Traditional" ($4.52) to some special version at nearly $13. Are Iridium plugs ($7.67) worth the money? From distant memory I recall some plugs are built to minimize rf although in my quick search this evening I did not see anything along that line mentioned. Thoughts/experience appreciated.

My advice is to go with the standard (traditional) NGK plug that was designed by the engineers to be used in your motor. Radio interference is a thing from the past. Modern plugs have that protection. If that NGK # is what the manufacturer calls for then why second guess them.

Thanks Scott...yes I added the "Traditional" model to my shopping list; just curious about the number of variations of the same model plug.

Marketing hype, perhaps? A way to separate a boater from their money? Or selling peace of mind?

Mostly unless you are building a high performance race engine or you just never change the plugs then Iridium coated plugs might be a benefit. Iridium is part of the platinum family of noble metals and is the hardest. Is there a benefit? Yes under certain situations but our little engines don't warrant the use of them and would be a waste of money.
