I learned on this Fprum that it only takes one slip and my favorite vise-grip pliers bounce off the deck and into the drink! I have lanyards on every tool.
For smooth handles with no holes I have used a piece of duct tape wrapped around the lanyard on the handle.

If it's one of the basic 't' handle models, why not just use some thin line and clove it onto the top, straddling the socket component and wrapped around the t slider?
