ELLIOTT/PATTISON SAILMAKER LLC Capri 25 Fleet Winter Discount for 2017-2018
First, thank all of you for your great support of our sails over many years! In our ongoing development to provide you the best Capri 25 sails possible this year I have worked on several small changes to improve the durability and shape holding in our sails. All the headsails will have slightly re-designed yarn layouts and I have also increased the yarn counts and density. More yarn density means smaller windows between the yarns (areas of mylar only between fibers) and smaller windows mean a bit better durability. It is these windows that break down first as the mylar ages and goes through countless flex cycles. We have also been able to hold a few sails to very small price increases, while quite most are actually at a slightly better price! We are also offering two options that will also add a season or two to the sails. We are making them available this year with either a single layer of light taffeta laminated in the middle of the sail, or with a layer of a very light skin taffeta on the outside of both sides of the sail. Both these options give you a sail with no mylar windows and they also make the laminate a little softer which helps eliminate some of the breakdown due to flexing. The single internal taffeta adds about 2.5 lbs. to the weight of a 155% genoa. The double lite taffetas only add about 6 oz. to a 155%, but with the special taffetas and extra lamination they are more expensive. They will give you at least an extra season of life, possible two. I dont see much reason to use either type with a mainsail because mainsails will outlast genoa by a couple of year due to the fact they dont get the impact flutter the headsails do every time you tack and the sail slams against the spreaders. For the same reason, they are not very important for the small 110% Jib. I have also made two small changes to our spinnakers. They now are designed for a bit more vertical camber, and slightly rounder quarter chord sections, both of which will make them a bit more powerful and a bit more stable for the mostly windward / leeward courses you sail. Please call me at 949-275-3302 or email to hp@epsails.com to order or with any questions. We do need to have all sail orders in by November 17th to take advantage of special group purchase prices from our suppliers. Regards, Harry Pattison Elliott/Pattison Sailmakers
