This is an invitation to bid for the 2018 Catalina-25/250 and Capri-25 National Championship
Any current member can submit a bid to host the 2018 Catalina-25/250 and Capri-25 National Championship. Of course, you will need to have a hosting club and other details. The association officers will review and vote to approve the host and regatta.
The facilities at this club include two boat ramps, ample dock space, fresh water, some available slips with shore power, two full kitchens, nice decks and clubhouse, and bathroom facilities with showers. More info on the club here: https://www.visayc.org
2. If yes, would you like to see (a) short races around markers, (b) cruising races to destinations, like bays or restaurants with bars and docks, or (c) a combination of both? I think races around markers would favor racers and local sailors who know the local winds, but cruising races would favor boats loaded for cruising and level the field for out-of-town sailors.
3. If we had an opening party and a closing party with food and beverages provided, and trophies at the end, what seems like reasonable entry fee?
I really would love to see a National happen. How is that lake as far as sailing conditions? It looks like a navigational nightmare. I personally think the Bay would have a lot more to offer and would provide more avenues for people to get there, but I may be biased.
I do wonder if we stuck a flier into every C25 around here how many would come out of the woodwork. I guarantee there has got to be no less than 100 of them in the Annapolis. If we could get boats and invite members who cannot realistically trailer their boat to crew on other boats it would be pretty awesome.

Thanks for the note. Biased or not..do the research and let us know what you find out. The National requirements are in my original email. Sam

Sailing conditions are good for an inland lake. The water is deep. Shoals are marked. There are no crab pots and lines. SML has pleasant wind in the spring and fall. Summer wind is light and variable, but morning and evening thermals are consistent. Wind in the winter is often harsh. Max wave height is typically less than a foot. By the way, all of the sailing scenes in "What About Bob?" were filmed on SML by our club.
One man's navigational nightmare might be another man's dream. Boats on SML get around fine. I don't find navigating on SML any harder than navigating on the Chesapeake Bay or around the Outer Banks. Sailors new to SML, like any body of water, benefit from having charts. The Navionics charts for SML are excellent.
Rob, I decided to work on a bid for SML because no one else appears to be working on a bid. I doubt that anyone would consider SML to be a better sailing venue than Annapolis. In addition, I estimate we have twenty C25s on the lake, while you estimate 100 in Annapolis. So you should work on putting in a bid.
Considering your interest and anticipating that you are going to put in a bid for a venue in Annapolis, I'm going to quit working on a bid for SML.
