Hi Again,

I'm curious as to what you guys prefer in the way of boat name and port graphics. Painted on or decals and why. If there are any pros or cons please let me know. Thanks.

Decals are cheap, easy to replace or change and look nice.

We applied vinyl on a previous boat 10+ years ago and they look as good as day one - no fading, no drying out. Plus the shop that produces them should keep the file which would allow them to print part of the graphic if a letter should get damaged.

I have used greatlettering.com on both my boats and have recommended them here. They have a Black Friday sale with 70% off their regular prices. Their regular prices are very good. At 70% off, it's a steal. Here's info from their website:

"BLACK FRIDAY 70% OFF SALE – starting Friday (Nov. 26) at 12am through 11:59pm the same day. Set your calendar so you don’t forget to shop online with us and SAVE BIG!

Use Promo code: FRIDAY at checkout."

Two color lettering is more expensive, but I used one color, and think it looks nice.

I bought my letter decals from Boat US online since you can experiment with different fonts, etc at your leisure. But actually, they are located in my area and so when I smudged one of the letters a few years later, I went down to their store to buy 8" - 12" sheet of same color so I could keep on hand after fixing the letter. They checked my color in their files, cut me a sheet of matl and gave it to me free ! My letters look great now after 10 yrs and I still have that extra matl on hand in case it's needed.

I would make sure you do not get lettering that is too small. It should be large enough for others to read your name while you are sailing.

I also used Great lettering.com. Excellent company and with the discount it's incredibly inexpensive.

Steve,

I went on their web site and that black Friday sale was posted for 2010. November 26 is on a Saturday this year. Do they have the sale every year? 70% off is a great deal!!

My graphics were done with a saber saw, router, and chisel (by a friend).

Sorry Jim. I missed that!

I've been on their mailing list for several years, and they have good sales 3-4 times a year, and email a notice to me. I suggest you go to their website and get on their emailing list. They'll probably have another sale soon.

Slim, I was happy with them. They have been on my boat now for 7 yrs. Shipping was fast If I remember right. It might be a little slower though with the holidays.
