I believe we're going to go with a Honda 8 HP, high thrust, long shaft. Specs say it weighs in at 107 lbs, but the dealer says it is a little more. (I don't yet know if the dealer's weight includes the fuel tank.)
What are the options for a new motor mount. Catalina Direct has a four-spring model, Z2247 for $357.63. It looks ideal, but it is a bit pricey. Are there other options people have had success with?
Also, with a brand-new engine, I'm thinking security may be more of an issue. Are there any good anti-theft measures people can take?
for antitheft , the motor mount screws have a lock on them, the motor is bolted to the plate, and i have a locking cable. this will stop the casual thief.

I hope you mean "extra long" (possibly listed as for 25" transom height). "Long" is listed for 20" height. You want those 5" on a C-25. I think my 2003 XL with electric starter was 107-108 lbs. The CD (Garhauer) bracket should fit the holes from the factory (Garhauer) bracket, and it has excellent vertical travel.
I locked the clamps together with a padlock--that could have been defeated with a hammer blow that breaks one of the clamp handles. But the location was pretty safe--backed into a guarded club slip. (Stealing a 108 lb. Honda won't be very "casual".)

I had the 25" XL shaft, elec start, 9.8 hp Nissan (Tohatsu/Mercury) and liked it very much. Very dependable and quiet running. Weighs 93 lbs. Ditto must have the 25" XL shaft. If you do not need electric start, the 8 hp model is available in 25" shaft. I wanted the 8 but at the time could not get it with both elec start and 25" shaft. Same engine, different carb.
Edit: Looks like now the 8 is not available in 25" shaft.

107 lbs. is a heavy motor to install and remove. My Nissan 6 hp weighs less than 60 lbs, and I can take it off the transom while underway and stow it on the cabin floor by myself, to race. You'll want two strong people to remove a 107 lb engine for servicing or for trailering. The Honda is a very nice engine in many respects, but it's weight is a big minus, IMO.
Be sure you get a motor mount that will help you raise the motor out of the water at the dock or on your mooring. My friend put his Honda 8 on a standard mount, and it takes two of us to lift it.

Onlineoutboards also offers a 6 hp Tohatsu/Nissan/Mercury, that Steve mentions above, with 25" shaft, high thrust prop, and a factory installed 60 watt 5 amp alternator. Weight is 61 lbs. Worth considering if you are an inland lake boat. http://onlineoutboards.com/tohatsu-6-hp-outboards.html

Regarding the motor mount from CD, It has 17" of travel. I doubt that you will find a another mount that has that much travel. It would be counter productive to have an extra long shaft on a mount that doesn't drop down enough. Yes it's expensive but it is the right one for the boat.
