We just bought this '84 Catalina 25 that has a sliding hatch too big....it fits in the groove on one side, not the other.....called Cat. Direct...those molds no longer available....anyone point us to a sound salvage sliding hatch? Or other suggestions?

Sounds like somebody beefed it up in order to sell the boat, and over-did it. The flanges on both sides tend to wear until they start to crack. There are a number of threads on the subject, like this one, including my opinions that the weight of the hatch should be borne by the molded "rails" on the cabintop (or pop-top) rather than the flanges. Can you sand that one flange down a little? Then you could fashion some little wood or nylon pads to fit on the hatch edges where they meet the molded rails, so the weight is supported by the vertical edges instead of the horizontal flanges, which I believe was the intent of the design.

A photo of the hatch you have would help in determining if you have the right hatch or not. Don't know what we're working with.

You're new... Do you know how to post pictures here? It's not difficult, but not intuitive either. The Testing forum has some instructions, which I'll boil down to this: After you've put a picture on some hosting site (including our Photo Gallery), copy and paste it's URL between the ] and the [ created when you click on in the Format tool bar.

Oh! ...and welcome!!
