did catalina change the diameter of the sheaves in the boom at some point? it looks like catalina direct sells 29mm sheaves for the boom, but mine are 44mm. Is there a reason for this, ie small sheaves equal better line movement / less hang ups, or are the 44mm sheaves just not available anymore?

it looks like the 29mm sheaves from CD are fairly close ,if not exact, replicas to harken 160 bullet sheaves, which would be a big upgrade from the cracky/dirty sheaves i pulled out today, but i'm concerned the diameter is much too small compared to the old sheaves.

I can't find any sheaves that match the old ones in height/width that also include at least a bronze oil sleave, but better yet ball bearings. Zephyerwerks will make ones with bronze sleaves for 32$ each, which is a bit pricey compared to the 10$ price of the harken ones.

So, I guess the question is, does it matter if the sheaves are 44mm or 29mm. These are only reefing lines, but I'd like them to roll smoothly.

Don't overthink this. They're fine, as long as you don't use super-low-stretch line that doesn't want to pull through the slightly smaller radius.

I have exactly the same ball bearing sheaves that CD apparently sells (same dimensional specs), though I picked them up at a WestMarine sale for $8 each. They were Harken #160.

By the way, CatalinaDirect does not make replicas. They source from typical brand names, but don't mention the brand names in their listings. If you buy those sheaves, they'll likely have a major brand name on the packaging.
