Hi there. so I have a few Raymarine ST60+ instruments on my boat and I need to get at the SeaTalk connections on the back of them to interface them with my new MFD.

From the looks of them, they attach from the rear, however I cant seem to access the rear.. anyone have any suggestions? (Still learning lots about this boat..)

That's a great question, on our 2003 there is barometer with a wood plate, if I remove the plate I have access to back of my depth meter.

We have a "cereal bowl" cover that hides a 3" hole to access the gauges. Remove four screws and you're in.

The installer may have been able to fish the wires to the right and down to the control panel. Remove the face of your power control panel and trace the wires.

Be careful. I am concerned that the installer may have glued your instruments on, since that's the only way I can think he did it without accessing thumb screws from behind. Let's hope he did not use 5200.

Oh... I hope I can get them off without ruining either the instruments or the fiberglass. And then get them back on again. I wish I knew which one was on the end of the Seatalk chain.

Maybe you can avoid removing them completely.

If I were you, I'd go to the 12vDC panel and look for where the Seatalk pigtail connects. There should be a yellow data wire that is not connected, and the red and black power/neutral wires will be in the same cable. Then I'd buy another Seatalk pigtail to splice into it, turning it into a fully functional Seatalk data/power cable. (You can find the pigtails all over ebay.) Use this to plug into your MFD, and a second pigtail to supply power to the whole system.

If you're mounting your MFD far away from the 12v panel, you can avoid making the long cable run twice by buying a Seatalk 3 Way Junction Block:



Then you only have to make the long wire run once, from the junction to the MFD. This will lower cost and also less possibility of electrical interference.
