I imagine one day of fabricating cabinets where the shelves are behind the backs of the settees, but this is far beyond my current abilities.

Has anyone improved the shelf storage behind the backs of the settees? If so, what have you done?

I think you have 4" depth there and about 12" height. I have some 9" or 10" speakers in that space now.

IMHO, For all tfhe construction and design effort you'd have to do to build cabinets there would it be worth it? I'd prefer to remove the head sink and use that space for a big locker on the starboard side, or add storage behind the head underneath the port side portlight window. Or build cabinets inside the vee berth along both sides. There's a lot of unused space there (unless you make the kids sleep in there), and you can make the cabinets quite tall and deep. Should be a good way to take advantage of all that space.

I have added cabinets. Wish i could figure out how to do pics! Not much of a cabinet maker, but turned out prettywell.

Captain Max, I would really like to see your settee cabinets. I am a passable woodworker and have been working on adding some custom touches to my interior. Have you noticed that it reduces head space when seated? Do you bump your head on it, or is there enough room?

Bruce - I really like the idea of putting a stereo in that space! Nice idea.

Kind of unrelated to the settees, but here is an idea for space utilization. The PO had removed the OEM alcohol stove on my boat and I currently use a single burner camp stove for overnight trips.

I have explored several options for improved storage in the C25; specifically, above the back rest I came up with decent size shelves like these:

other locations to squeeze some space out etc can be seen in the Project Album section; these were the first order improvements, several others have followed since but no pics yet...

The toughest part was the first cut into fiber glass inside the boat...

I could definitely see adding a magazine rack to the top of the settee... Would be pretty handy for books, bottles of suntan lotion, iPads and magazines!

Noob woodworking question: how do you get the wood cuts to match the curves of the hull?

I usually make a template of my projects out of cardboard beforehand. Cutting cardboard to match the hull curvature is much easier than wood.

great projects!! Check the Technical Tips section and archives for "storage"...I recall the owners of Compass Rose and others found clever ways to add storage both along the shelves above the settees and behind the settee cushions.

Those "secret compartments" behind the settlees were brilliant! Tons of space. Also lots of unused space under the quarter berths. Use a squat plastic storage container to keep things organized.

I was tech editor when we ran the inside storage ideas and I thought the space behind was very cool too. I simply bought more fiddle rails and stacked them. to make the shelf better.

I just installed a water tank under the v birth and removed the original tank from the starboard settee. I moved the bulkhead in the closer to the battery box and then carpeted the inside of the compartment. Added some hinges to the lid and now I have lots more easily accessible storage.

Do you still have your galley sink connected to the water tank in the vee berth? That's a long way to pump water with a hand pump!

No, I never used it, so I turned it into storage. Kinda nice accessing the electrical panel with no faucet in the way.
