Hi Gang-- I've got my stick down and wanted to know how to test the light? Can I just hold a 9volt or 12volt battery to the leads ? Thanks ya'll!

Yep, And while its down put a new bulb in it. Don't want to put the mast back up just to have the bulb burn out a week later.

As long as you are swapping...put in a LED unit.

Check the cable connections for corrosion - that's usually the biggest cause of failure. Check the lugs for corrosion as well as the screws and tabs.
Also, when you remove the bulb from the fixture, take some wet 220 grit (or finer) sandpaper and buff the contact surfaces in the fixture. I specifically mention a very light grit as a rougher grit can cause deep scratches that can corrode very quickly and remove a lot of material from the contacts. You may want to apply some vaseline or dielectric grease over the connections to protect from future corrosion.

I made a 15' extension cable using a spare deck connection pair.
Now when I want to test the lights with the mast down, I just connect the extension to the Mast lighting pig tail and the other end to the deck connector.

I replaced mine with LEDs and used a 9V to test them before I put the mast back up.
