Hopefully a stupid question.. I need to rewire my boat. I'm assuming that I can drill holes anywhere as long as it isn't through the hull? I have to drill through the deck to run new mast wires.
I just did this and was able to drill through the existing connection aiming towards the bow of the boat and it came out right in front of the bulkhead. Same home, new wires and connector.

I did the same thing for the mast wiring on mine. The original wires ran through the deck right on top of the bulkhead. If you want, I can take some pictures top and bottom of where mine came through at.
That deck plug is defiantly one of the stupidest things Catalina ever did. Mine still works but the threads on the plug are all stripped from years of being kicked. I'm not looking forward to the eventual repair.

I did same thing - Hole came out right into the rubber liner of the main cabin/Head bulkhead into the Head area. From there, I ran the wire along the bulkhead to behind the Head and then drilled a hole in the Head Platform to then run it behind the seats in the main cabin. Then hooked it up to a new switch panel on the front panel of the galley sink. Photos of the switch panel on my website.
Thanks for the quick replies. I ran a 1/4" drill bit through the deck connector hole at an angle towards the bow. Caught the edge of the decretive strip on the bulkhead but it worked well. This weekend I will make the hole bigger and run the wires back to the fuse panel. The PO has wires run all over the place so I will re run them all. Thanks.
