When I pulled RSII out last spring to redo my swing keel cable we noticed slight blistering in a couple of spots right above the waterline. I decided that even though she was bottom painted back in 2012 it would make sense to haul her out in late fall and redo the bottom paint as well as slightly raise the waterline.
The broker who sold me the boat told me she was painted with Pettit's Trinidad SR back at his place (in Memphis). The marina where I have my work done (out at the lake) uses Sea Hawk and recommends Tropikote Biocide Plus. They are completely compatible (I spoke with both companies and they both agree plus all of the compatibility charts show them to be). My question is, does anyone have experience where they would recommend one versus the other? The yard has no problem getting me Trinidad if that's what I'd like, but they have a good supply of the Tropikote in stock. I'm not looking for recommendations for anything else, just these two choices. Thanks!
Ask around if others in the Marina use Seahawk and get their opinions. I have never heard of the brand but a little search turned up this interesting artical, Seems they got into a little trouble..http://www.paintsquare.com/news/?fuseaction=view& id=11074
We put Trinidad SR on SL several years ago. Very-very happy with it. Virtually no growth on our hull other than the very bottom of the keel where I couldn't get to because it was on the trailer.
It took a lot of prep work because the VC-17 that came on the boat had to come off, as well as all the mussels & barnacles that had grown on it.
That said, I'd agree with the advice to ask around the marina and see how other folks like the other paint. If the price is the same-ish, I'd be inclined to put another coat of Trinidad on.
