So... I F'ed up when I put the new keel bolt assembly on. Turns out you can get it on backwards. I was in a rush and not paying much attention. I figured out that it is cutting into the bottom of the boat while I was sanding today.
I've got a marina nearby that can put it on stands for me so I can fix the oops.
To my question, I've got a swing keel and I want to be able to raise the keel after I do the fix to make sure I don't have any more issues. Where do the stands need to go to hold up the boat plus the weight of the keel?
They say jack stands should be placed where there are bulkheads. Since there isn't a bulkhead in the starboard rear, I'd place a third rear stand under the skeg, for a total of 5 at a minimum.
I'd let the marina set the stands - they should have the knowledge.
My swing keel boat is always blocked under the centerline just forward and aft of the swing keel. The jackstands are located athwart the blocks, but don't provide most of the support. I think it's best to support most of the weight on the centerline of the boat. If I'm going to lower the keel, I just ask the yard to block the boat a foot higher than usual.
