Getting close to Memorial day the launch list gets to be long. Throw in some bad weather days and suddenly there is a waiting list. I launched back on April 16th. I've learned to launch early when the guys are just standing around and are looking for something to do. the side benefit is that we have sailed 126 NM already this season with the pond all to ourselves, Well almost.

I think what I learned this year is "last in, first out" LIFO. Way too may boats in front of me this year.

It is with great pride I fixed my head with the refit kit I got yesterday. It does amaze me for a $200 dollar head they advise you to order their refit kid every 2 years at $73 a pop. Oh well, it is a sailboat where everything costs more!

Scott - glad you got out early and have been getting in a lot of sailing. The other boats are finally starting to filter in this week - late start for most a week before Memorial Day.

Justin - like your new crib boards - dramatic improvement. But what is that rectangular display on the starboard bulkhead? Depth meter or a fishfinder?

Nice. I'm looking for a boat speed gauge to replace my datamarine unit. It still works, but the display is extremely dim and it looks like c r a p.

It's the Moor knotmeter. Comes with a cartridge type impeller that self-powers the gauge (no 12 V). The Moor sender is swappable with the existing through hulls from the EMS gauge, but I think it's been discussed that Datamarine may be a different size.

New Motor

I replaced my old crappy 2-stroke this weekend with a four-stroke. It's the 8hp model though, the 9.9s are too heavy for my motor bracket. But it has been a vast improvement! Electric start and not having to mix my fuel is a game changer. Now I just need to get the remote throttle installed so I don't have to keep reaching out to the stern while going through the locks.

Hm.. I've checked the specs and 9.9 and 8hp are the same motor except the carburetor.

Don't know what to say. I looked at the different motors while at the dealer and that is what they were reporting.

You might be right, Tomas, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a little difference in valve lift and timing from a different cam profile. A 25% gain in HP seems like a lot for a carb change.

Probably they use the same block for both motors but the carb and cyl. bore are different.

Everything forward of the main bulkheads has now been stripped from the boat and that area has been thoroughly scrubbed. It was disgusting. I dumped out 3 buckets of water that looked like mud.



And Lance installed a Whale Gusher 10 bilge pump. We had this one left over from a previous boat. He rebuilt it. The sealant was cleaned off after I took the pictures. He still needs to install the hoses. He needs to put in a larger through hull since this pump uses 1.5" hose.

Busy Weekend:

First, I had heard that it you fall in the water and you are not able to grab onto the ladder and pull it down there will be a problem so I used Extreme Velco and untied my line to the ladder so, god forbid, I am needing to get up after a fall in.





I also installed my new Headsail. a 135 Genoa from Doyle Sails of City Island:



After reading posts on this site I was looking for a way to tie up the tiller so that I did not have lines limiting the space in the cockpit. Here is what I came up with:



I bought some clips and a Flag at West Marine with my bonus dollars I earned after spending big $$$ last year:



And lastly, I am using other clips I bought to fly my Burgee from the Musqueta Cove Yacht Club. I only have 2 halyards so I needed to use the shrouds.
